Simplicity 1590

Os presento mi última creación. Se trata del patrón Simplicity 1590. Es de estilo Retro de los años 40. Ya sabéis que soy una apasionada de la moda vintage y cuando vi este patrón en oferta, no pude resistirme. Me gusta su forma, de cuerpo entallado y  con peplump. La tela que he utilizado es preciosa tiene cierta textura y relieve. No ha sido difícil trabajar con ella y estoy contenta con el resultado.

He decidido hacer la vista A ya que el cuello es más escotado y de agradecer ahora en verano. Tenía mis dudas acerca del peplum pero una vez finalizada la blusa he de decir que queda muy elegante y sienta muy bien al cuerpo.

Solo he tenido que hacer un ajuste debido a mi estatura y es que el talle me quedaba demasiado largo y tuve que acortarlo pero por lo demás queda perfecta. Tanto las vistas delanteras como el escote quedan muy limpias. Le temía a los ojales. No se por que me intimidan tanto porque tampoco es para tanto pero a la hora de la verdad… en fin supongo que se debe a la falta de experiencia. Las costuras interiores están acabadas con técnicas vintage que le dan ese toque auténtico.

Me gusta mucho y seguro repetiré con otra vista y otra tela.

Here you have my new creation. It is Simplicity 1590 pattern. It is a Retro 40s style. You know, I love Vintage garments and when I saw this pattern in offer I couldn’t resist buying it. I like the fitted shape and the peplum. To make it I used a nice embossed texture fabric. It hasn’t been difficult to work with and I’m very happy with the result.

I’ve decided to make view A because it has a wide neckline and in summer this is important. I was not sure with the peplump but once the blouse is finished I have to say that it is elegant and fits the body shape beautifully.

I only have made an adjustment from back-neck to waist because of my high, it was too long and once it was shortened it fits perfectly. Both, front and neck facings are very neat and clean. I was afraid of buttonholes. I don’t know why buttonholes intimidate me so much because they are not difficult but when I have to make them… well I suppose it is the lack of experience. I have finished the hems with hand stitch vintage techniques which give that authentic touch.

I like this pattern very much and for sure I will make another view with another fabric.

Today I’d like to share with you an interesting way of learning sewing. As I’m a very busy person, I work, I’m a housewife, like running, taking care of my ancient dog, cooking, sewing….. and I could continue hours and hours, it was impossible for me to assist to presencial classes. I’ve learned sewing ages ago and I needed a refreshment because what I’d learnt was the basics. As I had no time I decided to look for some online classes. I have to admit that both classes changed the way I used to sew. Alison Smith is a great teacher with high knowledge in couture techniques. She explains in detail and teaches techniques that make the difference as understanding underlinings, how to sew perfect curves, delightful darts, inserting sleeves, inserting a lining by hand, In the Couture finishing techniques class, you will learn hand-sewn stitches, superb seam finishes, concealed zippers, beautiful buttonholes, classy closures.. I highly recommend any class tought by Alison Smith.

Debo decir que ambas clases me cambiaron la manera en que cosía. Alison Smith es una gran profesora con elevados conocimientos en técnicas de costura. Explica con detalle y enseña técnicas que marcan la diferencia como por ejemplo, entender el entretelado, como coser curvas y pinzas perfectas, poner mangas, coser el forro a mano. En “Couture finishing techniques” enseña a coser a mano, acabados exquisitos en costuras, poner cremalleras invisibles, ojales preciosos, cierres con clase… Recomiendo encarecidamente cualquier clase impartida por Alison Smith.

En “40 Techniques every sewer should know”, Gail explica la importancia  que tiene la plancha cuando cosemos. También se pueden aprender muchas técnicas y trucos que ayudan a tener confianza a la hora de coser. En este curso podemos aprender a elegir el punto perfecto, todo acerca de coser curvas y esquinas, acabados pulidos, como poner las mangas fácilmente…

Advanced Industry techniques is something different. Janet Pray teaches how to sew without pins, how to insert zippers, waistbands and sew butonholes easily.

“Underneath It All” This one is a very interesting class. It is by Linda Lee and you will learn all about interfacings, underlinings, interlinings, the function of facings, linings and many useful tips.

Patterns – Patrones

Today I want to talk to you about the sewing resources. You may think it is not necessary but believe me when I say that in Spain it is no easy to find patterns. The only patterns I’ve been able to find are the ones published in Burda magazine and Patrones magazine. It’s not bad but you can imagine how difficult and chaotic is to trace the one you need among hundred of lines. Luckily my daughter is more patient than me and she is the one who did that unconfortable task which helped me a lot. I am talking in past tense because one day i found the Simplicity web and a new world of possibilities was opened to me. There you can find the famous Simplicity Patterns, the New Look Patterns and Burda Patterns too. They are individuals!! You don’t have to fight among lines and each one contains several sizes, are simple to follow and well explained and the best, in my opinion is that in each pattern, you have different views which give a variety of options to make more than one garment with the same pattern. They aren’t expensive and from time to time there are special offers and you can buy them half price. I order them online and in few days they are  in my hands at home.

If you want other pattern brands, then there is Jaycotts which offers you: Simplicity, Vogue, Butterick, mcCall’s, Kwik Sew, Burda and Eliza M Vintage. They also have special offers. These are my resources when speaking about patterns. I am happyP having discovered that option and I recomend it.

Hoy quiero hablaros de patrones. En España, en concreto en Barcelona y provincia, es muy difícil encontrar patrones. Los únicos que he encontrado son los que vienen en la publicación de la revista Burda y la revista Patrones. Me parece una buena opción si no hay nada más pero a decir verdad son un lío, tienes que descubrir tu patrón entre cientos de lineas y no es tarea fácil. Afortunadamente mi hija es mucho más paciente que yo y ella era la que se encargaba de sacar y copiar el patrón, lo que me facilitaba enormemente la tarea. Hablo en pasado porqué un día afortunadamente encontré la web de Simplicity y se me abrió un mundo de posibilidades. En esta web podemos encontrar los famosos patrones Simplicity, New Look y  Burda. Son patrones individuales!! no tienes que batallar para encontrar el tuyo entre cientos de lineas. Cada patrón contiene diferentes tallas, son sencillos y muy bien explicados lo que hace que sean fáciles de seguir. Y lo mejor de todo, en mi opinión, es que cada patrón suele ofrecer 3 vistas, es decir que no solo se limita a un único modelo sino que del mismo se pueden realizar como mínimo 3 modelos diferentes. No son para nada caros y de vez en cuando hay ofertas especiales y pueden salir a mitad de precio. Como aquí no hay, yo los pido online y en unos días ya los tengo en mis manos.

Otra opción, si queréis patrones de otras marcas, es el establecimiento Jaycotts. Aquí encontrareis patrones: Simplicity, Vogue, Butterick, mcCall’s, Kwik Sew, Burda and Eliza M Vintage. También ofrecen ofertas de vez en cuando y el sistema de envio es el mismo. Estoy encantada de haber encontrado esta solución y os la recomiendo.

Working in a new project

A new challenge is on. I can’t stop sewing hahaaa. This one is also a vintage one, what can I say? I can’t resist getting vintage patterns. It is Simplicity pattern 1590. I love these patterns because are well explained and easy to follow, you know I was used to draw the pattern from Burda’s magazine and sometimes was a chaotic job.This time I’ve decided to make view A.

Nuevo proyecto en marcha!! Jajaaa No puedo parar de coser. Esta vez se trata de otra blusa Vintage. No puedo resistirme a comprar patrones vintage. Se trata del patrón Simplicity 1590. Me gustan mucho estos patrones, están muy bien explicados y las instrucciones son fáciles de seguir. Estaba acostumbrada a copiar los patrones de las revistas Burda y solía ser complicado y caótico. Esta vez he decidido hacer la Vista A.

Este patrón es un poco más difícil de seguir pero espero llegar a entenderlo. ¿Que os parece? ¿Habéis hecho alguno de estos?

Simplicity 1278 Another Vintage Blouse

I am in love with Vintage garments. Here it is one of the most beautiful blouses I’ve ever seen. It is a 1950s blouse with an elegant and sophisticated line. I decided to make view A because I have weakness with three quarter sleeves. The fabric I chose was a saten flowered one and I must say it wasn’t easy to work with, it was slippery but at least I managed to control it.

The pleats in the neck makes a beautiful high draped neckline and the rounded lower edge provides an elegant look. I decided to insert an invisible zipper as it was in the side.

All in all, I like how this blouse fits. It is elegant. I am sure I will do the other views too.

Estoy enamorada del vestuario vintage. Aquí tenéis una de las blusas más bonitas que jamas haya visto. Se trata de una blusa de los años 50 con una linea sofisticada y elegante. He decidido hacer la vista A del patrón porqué tengo debilidad con las mangas 3/4. La tela elegida es un satén con un estampado floral. He de decir que no ha sido fácil trabajar con esta tela, es muy resbaladiza pero al final he conseguido controlarla.

El drapeado del cuello le da un toque muy bonito y el acabado redondeado inferior le da una apariencia elegante. Como la abertura para la cremallera iba a un lado, he decidido ponerla invisible.

Me encanta como sienta esta blusa y estoy segura que también haré las otras vistas.

My “new” friend Bernina 1008

This is my new Bernina 1008, well I must admit that this model is not new. I have been sewing with a Bernette Fun Style till now but I needed something stronger as I’m sewing much more now. I went to Bernina’s dealer in Barcelona and the woman in there recommend me the 3 series of Bernina. I wanted an opinion about the 1008 model. She told me it was an old mechanical model that serie 3 was computerized and for this reason better. As I was used to a mechanical sewing machine and was very happy with it decided to search more before getting a new one.

I remembered I’d read an interesting article about mechanical machines in Gertie’s New Blog for better sewing so I started searching information about it. Yes Bernina 1008 was the one I wanted. It is a workhorse machine, it gives me what I really need, I only use it for sewing garments so the only stitch I need is stright and zig-zag. It’s user friendly, It’s smoth and fast, the stitch quality is lovely, it sews all kind of fabrics from delicate ones to heavier. It is a simple but very good quality machine, I couldn’t be happier with it.

Esta es mi nueva Bernina 1008. Bueno nueva, nueva que digamos no es. Hasta ahora he estado utilizando una Bernette Fun Style pero debido a que me he aficionado a coser, necesitaba algo más potente. Fui a un distribuidor Bernina en Barcelona y la chica que me atendió me recomendaba la serie 3 porqué es computarizada y me decía que tenia más puntadas y que era mejor. No lo dudo pero yo no necesito puntadas que no voy a utilizar ya que solo coso prendas de vestir. Le pedí que me diera opinión de la 1008 y me dijo que era una maquina antigua y mecánica y que probablemente la iban a dejar de fabricar. Como estaba acostumbrada a una mecánica y me gustaba mucho, decidí buscar más antes de comprar.

Recordé que había leído un artículo muy interesante sobre máquinas de coser mecánicas en el Gerties New Blog for better sewing y empecé a indagar más. Si, la Bernina 1008 es la máquina que yo quería. Es una maquina potentisima, me da todo lo que realmente necesito. Solo la utilizo para coser prendas de vestir, por este motivo solo necesito puntada recta, zig zag y pocas más. Es muy fácil de usar, va muy fina y rápida. La calidad del punto es excepcional y cose todo tipo de tejidos; desde los más delicados a los mas gruesos. Es una máquina sencilla pero de muy buena calidad y potente. No podría estar más contenta con ella.
